). An international committee consisting of members from the sponsoring societies, with Johnson Haas (Western Michigan University) as chairman, will select the recipients.
The support is not intended to provide full coverage of the costs of the conference. Students would require additional sources of funds to cover their total expenses. Depending on the number of applicants and available funds, the maximum support is expected to be around 1000 €.
The conference organizers will provide the funds to support students and young scientists from economically developing countries. The support for the general program is from the Geochemical Society (GS), the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG), the German Mineralogical Society (DMG) and the Japanese Geochemical Society (GSJ). In addition, there will be some support from NSF, which is, however, restricted to students enrolled in an accredited degree-granting university or institution within the United States. The organizing committee is actively seeking additional external funding to be able to support more students and young scientists.
Students applying for support have to pay the normal abstract and
registration fees (student rates). They will be informed about the
decision of the selection committee by the middle of May, well ahead of the early registration deadline (June 1).
