  International Goldschmidt Student Travel Grant
Application deadline 4 May 2007

Two sources of travel support are available for students participating in the Goldschmidt Conference at Cologne:

(1) Travel support for students and Students and new researchers (post-docs who have received their doctorate after 1 January 2004) from economically developing countries as listed in the AGU list of countries of low-income economies and
(2) Travel support for delegates from any country who were graduate students on 1 January 2007. In addition to this funding, postgraduate students may wish to apply for student support from the Geochemistry Group of the Geological society. See their website for details.

Applicants in both categories must be the presenting author (poster or talk) for a contribution.

The selection procedure will use the quality of research as expressed in the abstract, the funding available to the applicant and additional material requested from the applicants (see the ). An international committee consisting of members from the sponsoring societies, with Johnson Haas (Western Michigan University) as chairman, will select the recipients.

The support is not intended to provide full coverage of the costs of the conference. Students would require additional sources of funds to cover their total expenses. Depending on the number of applicants and available funds, the maximum support is expected to be around 1000 €.

The conference organizers will provide the funds to support students and young scientists from economically developing countries. The support for the general program is from the Geochemical Society (GS), the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG), the German Mineralogical Society (DMG) and the Japanese Geochemical Society (GSJ). In addition, there will be some support from NSF, which is, however, restricted to students enrolled in an accredited degree-granting university or institution within the United States. The organizing committee is actively seeking additional external funding to be able to support more students and young scientists.

Students applying for support have to pay the normal abstract and registration fees (student rates). They will be informed about the decision of the selection committee by the middle of May, well ahead of the early registration deadline (June 1).

Further details about the International Goldschmidt Student Travel Grant are given on the Geochemical Society website.
